Spirit of Enterprise: Collecting and Investing in Whisky

Collecting whisky, either for immediate consumption or as part of an investment portfolio, has become increasingly popular in recent years.

Some people aspire to own a bottle from each distillery or a collection of vintage whiskies from the year they or their loved ones were born.

However, it is highly desirable to tap into the expertise of a knowledgeable partner if you want to be sure you are obtaining the right bottles from a reputable source.

Montague Fine & Rare wines has the experience and the connections to source the bottles you seek.

There is a strong appetite for whisky as part of a balanced investment portfolio, and with good reason. According to Rare Whisky 101, the most authoritative insight into the global industry, the value of collectable bottle of single malt at the end of 2021 was almost 30% up on 2019.

However, investing in whisky is not a get-rich-quick scheme - whatever you may read elsewhere on the internet. Whisky is an attractive proposition only as a medium- or long-term investment.

This is one of the reasons why we deal only in bottles of whisky rather than casks. We combat the risk of fraud by working solely with trusted and reputable suppliers and do everything possible to ensure the authenticity of every bottle.

As well as being able to advise you on accessing your favourite single malts or rare blends, either for immediate drinking or for investment purposes, we can help you to ensure your collection is stored and insured correctly.

There are long-term rewards to be found from building a whisky collection, but the patience to wait while a particular expression or vintage becomes increasingly scarce - and thus increases in value - is essential.

Please note that there is never a guarantee of a return on any investment.

Both wine and whisky are a medium-to-long-term investment that should be properly stored and insured.
